While I appreciate that the internet has evolved to include many of the things I have grown to love: YouTube, gifs, social media platforms, and meme generators, I find myself wondering about when we'll collectively have our "oh no" moment as a society.
As the internet becomes seemingly more "open," especially to dynamic content creation possibilities, the more closed it actually becomes. As net neutrality has been abandoned, as the dark web seems to creep out into the light, as giant monopolies tighten their hold on information pathways, I can't help but hold my breath and pray for the best.
